Machine Features:

- Electrical Consumption: Fiber lasers consume significantly less power than plasma cutters. A 1000W laser operating at 380V draws approximately 2.6A, compared to a plasma source which might draw 60A or more at 380V. This translates to substantial electricity cost savings; for example, a monthly electricity bill of $1000 for plasma could be reduced to approximately $26 with a fiber laser (a 38x reduction).
- Consumables: Plasma cutting requires frequent replacement of tips and electrodes. A single fiber laser nozzle can process a large volume of metal before replacement is needed. Plasma’s high-pressure air and rapid electrode burning necessitate more frequent part changes, impacting setup time and machine downtime.
- Cutting Speed: Fiber lasers offer superior cutting speeds. While initial cutting speeds for both fiber laser and plasma might be comparable for certain materials, the laser’s unique construction (low center of gravity, close column to table) allows for significantly higher operational speeds, potentially up to 10 times faster than plasma, which is limited by its higher torch and column structure. This also results in reduced machine vibration.
- Sensor Technology: Fiber laser heads are equipped with superior sensors compared to plasma systems, emitting less radiation. Plasma’s high radiation can interfere with other nearby electronic equipment. Fiber laser CNC systems offer greater stability and reduced interference.
